Important tips for newborn photoshoots on the day of the shoot
For everything to go smoothly on the day of a newborn photoshoot, it is important that parents maintain a relaxed routine, always respecting the newborn's time. Babies feel every emotion around them, so a calm, gentle environment helps them settle quickly.
Try to feed the baby just before the session begins. A full tummy is one of the biggest factors in helping newborns sleep peacefully during posed photos. If you are breastfeeding, plan to feed during the first minutes of the appointment too — it is completely normal.
Dress your baby in loose, easy-to-remove clothing, and skip diapers with tight elastic. Elastic marks can take up to an hour to fade on delicate skin. A simple onesie with front snaps is ideal.
Keep the room warm — around 78–82°F (25–28°C). Newborns lose heat quickly and warmth is essential to keep them relaxed and sleepy during longer sessions.
Bring meaningful items for the setup: a special blanket from grandma, a knitted bonnet, or a wrap that has emotional value. These small details transform beautiful photos into heirloom pieces.
Finally, allow plenty of time. Newborn sessions typically last two to three hours because we work at the baby's pace. Trust the process, enjoy the moment, and let your photographer take care of everything else.
